The Islands

The Mar Virado Bay offers us a unique view: the sea, which is almost always calm, surrounds a group of islands, among them the Maranduba Island with its paradise-like beach, just in front of the hotel.
You can reach this island by rowboats or kayaks, offered by the hotel.
Further away you can see the Mar Virado Island and others, up to the horizon. On the Anchieta Island (also known as Pig Island) we can still see the ruins of an ancient prison abandoned since the 50's, after a violent riot that finished in a big fire.
At the main desk of the hotel you can arrange a trip in a "Escuna" (double mast sailing boat) to this island. Usually this Escuna, equipped with snack bar, departs from Saco da Ribeira, a touristical harbour 12 km. North of the Pousada, takes you on a guided tour to the prison with stops for bathing on deserted beaches.

Ubatuba

Some 30 km. to the North you can find Ubatuba, a small town of 50.000 inhabitants where you can see the Anchieta Cross, symbol of the Iperoig peace settlement of 1563.
There are still some colonial constructions like the cathedral, the old prison restored in 1903 and the City Hall. On the way to Ubatuba you can see beautiful beaches and spots like the "crying cave" on Sununga Beach, the Ponta Grossa Natural Park with the swallow's cave and the ancient lighthouse, or the Ipiranguinha waterfall in the natural rainforest.

Paraty

A historical city that is protected by State laws and is a national monument that is located 100 km. from the Pousada, on the inner part of the Baia Grande on the way to Rio de Janeiro. It would be unforgivable to be on the North shore and not go to Paraty, since it is a rare example of a well kept harbour city from the time when Brazil was a Portuguese colony (XVIII century). This is due to the fact that it has been isolated for lack of roads for almost two centuries, being "rediscovered" only in the 70's, with the construction of the Rio-Santos road.
If the view over Paraty and the Baia Grande is charming, the same can be said of the road that takes you there and from which you can see parts of the coast, many beautiful beaches (many of them used for surfing) and dozens of islands, besides natural waterfalls like Prumirim or Escada, right on the border of Paraty. On the road you can also see an ancient Casa de Farinha (flour house) on the Picinguaba farm, completely restored and still being used by the indigenous and local people who live there.

Fazenda Bananal

On the road to Cunha, 6km. away from Paraty, this farm is famous for its "pinga" (sugarcane beverage), the Caninha Murycana, but also has a zoo with tropical animals and a little restaurant where you can savour typical country dishes and "pingas" with various flavours.

Ecologic Trails

Departing from the hotel there are many possibilities for trekking through the tropical forest and arriving on charming isolated beaches.
All the tours to Ubatuba, Paraty, Fazenda Bananal and trekking can be organised through the personnel at the front desk, who will provide you with all the necessary information.
